Where the Coway is a particle specialist, the Austin Air HealthMate is a gas specialist. Its defining feature is a genuinely large sorbent bed, up to 15 lbs of activated carbon blended with zeolite, which is what actually adsorbs the gaseous pollutants a HEPA filter passes straight through: formaldehyde, other VOCs off-gassing from new furnishings and finishes, and smoke odors. It also carries 60 sq ft of true HEPA, so you are not giving up particle capture to get gas capture. The tradeoffs are honest: it is a 47 lb steel drum with a manual dial, no smart features, no auto mode, and it is expensive. But for the low-tox angle, the physics matter more than the app, and this is the mainstream unit that puts a serious amount of carbon in the airstream.
